Level 3 Culinary Academy: Dumplings, Dumplings, Dumplings Ages 11-18


Embark on a culinary journey that spans the globe, all from the comfort of our kitchen! Our 5-day hands-on cooking camp is designed for EXPERIENCED young chefs aged 11-18, eager to explore the art of making dumplings from around the world. Each day, students will dive into the rich traditions and unique techniques behind some of the most beloved dumplings across various cultures.

From mastering the art of sautéing and steaming to boiling, searing, and even deep frying, this camp promises a comprehensive learning experience that is both fun and educational. Culminating in a thrilling Secret Ingredient Competition, our young chefs will showcase their newfound skills in a friendly contest, vying for the title of top dumpling chef. Potsticker Perfection Monday
Menu: Pork Potstickers with Sweet and Sour Sauce
Techniques: Sauté and Steaming

Kick off the week with the art of crafting perfect Pork Potstickers, a favorite that combines juicy fillings with a crispy edge. You'll master the technique of sautéing to achieve that irresistible golden crust, followed by steaming to ensure the inside is perfectly cooked, tender, and flavorful. It's a dual cooking method that introduces the balance of texture and taste Get ready to fold, sauté, and steam your way to potsticker glory!


Pierogi Paradise Tuesday
Menu: Pierogi with Cream Sauce
Techniques: Boil and Sear

Embark on a culinary trip to Eastern Europe with the comforting classic, Pierogi. This day is all about the boil and sear technique, where you'll learn to cook these dumplings to a tender perfection before giving them a crispy, golden edge in the pan. Paired with a creamy sauce, it's a lesson in how simple ingredients can transform into a dish full of depth and flavor. From dough preparation to filling and cooking, you're in for a hands-on experience that's both fun and delicious.


Xiaolongbao Xperience Wednesday
Menu: Soup Dumplings (Xiaolongbao) 
Techniques: Steam Basket

Midweek brings you the challenge and delight of making Soup Dumplings (Xiaolongbao). Using a steam basket, discover the precision and patience required to encase a rich, savory broth within a delicate wrapper. This technique is all about the finesse of dough handling and the steam cooking method that brings these dumplings to life. You'll learn the importance of balance in flavors and the art of eating them without letting all the delicious broth escape!


Sesame Sensation Thursday
Menu: Jian Dui (Fried Sesame Balls) with Chocolate Sauce
Techniques: Deep Frying
Dive into the world of sweet treats with Jian Dui, the crispy and chewy sesame balls filled with a surprise chocolate sauce. The focus is on deep frying, a technique that, when done correctly, results in a perfectly golden and crispy exterior with a warm, gooey center. It's a fun and indulgent way to learn about temperature control, timing, and the joy of making (and eating!) dessert dumplings.

Dumpling Duel Friday
Menu: Secret Ingredient Competition

The whole week leads up to this. Working in teams of two, students will take everything they’ve learned throughout the week and put it on display. It’s a fun and friendly competition, and everyone at The Learning Kitchen is a winner, but our judges will have the tough task of choosing the young chefs who score the highest based on taste, technique, creativity, and presentation! The highest scoring chefs will be awarded a prize!


This week-long adventure is more than just a cooking camp; it’s a passport to discovering the diverse world of dumplings, fostering a love for cooking, and building lifelong skills. Join us at The Learning Kitchen for an unforgettable experience!

This Level 3 Class is not appropriate for inexperienced cooks and is restricted to Ages 11-18, unless both Level 1 & 2 Culinary Camps have been completed.


Our recipes use common ingredients that may or may not be specified in the menu, including various fruits and vegetables, nuts, meats, spices, wheat flours, etc. If you have a food allergy or dietary restriction we should be aware of, please call or email before attending the class. We may or may not be able to accommodate.

A minimum 14-day notice via email ( is required for class cancellationsIf you're child is unable to attend a class, you are encouraged to send someone in his or her place. We cannot make exceptions.

Classes are two hours, but duration is approximate and may vary by 10-15 minutes; it's best to plan accordingly.

Kids classes are for ages 11-18

Parents/guardians may stay for the duration of the class, but are encouraged to sit back, relax, and let the students work independently.
